He listed the structures in the market to include 505 shops, administrative block, mosque, refuse bank, perimeter fencing, internal roads, drains, water facility, banks, fire station and police outpost.

“As you are aware, the Gashua Market is one of the four modern markets this administration is constructing, with others in Nguru, Damaturu and Potiskum.

“The state government has also awarded the contract for the construction of another one in Geidam.

“I am glad that we have completed the Gashua and Nguru markets, while that of Damaturu and Potiskum are at advanced stages of completion.

“This market is already registered as a limited liability company with a full-fledged Board of Directors.

“The day-to-day running of the market is to be conducted by a General Manager to be supported by Management Staff,” Mr Buni said.

The governor charged the board and management of the market to work in harmony to ensure proper utilisation of all the facilities.

“I wish to draw your attention to taking all necessary measures in preventing leakages in the revenue collection drive and ensure that all revenues generated go into government coffers,” he said.

Mr Buni announced that the market had been named after Senate President Ahmad Lawan, a native of Gashua, in recognition of his contribution to the state’s development.

Similarly, the governor named the main road from the City Centre Roundabout to the College of Education in Gashua as Umar Suleiman Way.

In his remarks, Mr Lawan thanked the governor for the honour, saying it would spur him to attract more development projects to the state.

He announced a donation of N200 million to 400 traders in Yobe North Senatorial District through his SAIL Foundation, to expand their businesses.

The senate president commended the governor for prudent management of the state’s resources.
