Gombe State Police Bans Open Displays Of Weapons, Bike Operations At Night And Gang-like Activities

In a bid to enhance public safety and curb criminalities the Gombe State Police Command has announced a ban on open displays of dangerous weapons during celebrations and public gatherings. The new measures also include restrictions on motorcycle operations at night, passenger limits, and a ban on the use of loud horns by motorcyclists

 

Public display of dangerous weapons, including knives, machetes, daggers, and clubs, during celebrations, festivals, and gatherings are banned.

This move is part of proactive measures to prevent violence, intimidation, and gang-related clashes particularly activities linked to thuggery, locally known as ‘Kalare.’”

 

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution prohibits the unlawful possession of offensive weapons. He warned that security operatives will arrest and prosecute anyone found violating this order

 

The Command’s new restrictions on motorcycle operations, including a nightly ban from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, motorcyclists are no longer permitted to carry more than one passenger or use loud truck-style horns, which are often linked to reckless behavior. However, these rules do not apply to essential service workers as are exempted from the restrictions

 

Traditional rulers, community leaders, and motorcycle unions are urged to educate their members on compliance. Residents are also encouraged to report violators to the nearest police station. The Command has directed security personnel to enforce these rules strictly.

 

The Police Command assures residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property but warns that violators will face the full wrath of the law.
