Governorship candidate under the auspices of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the March 18th race in Delta State, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi FNIM, OON, has expressed shock with the judgement of the Supreme Court which affirmed Sheriff Oborevwori, as winner of the gubernatorial election, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Gbagi, a former Minister of State for Education, expressed its position in a statement he personally signed on Friday 19th 2024, in reaction to the court judgment on the appeal petition he filed.
The largest private investor in the State said that Deltans and indeed majority of Nigerians were alarmed, disappointed and gravely concerned with the reasoning of the Supreme Court.
Hear him: “Fellow Deltans, today the 19th day of January 2024, marks the darkest day in the history of the people of Delta state”.
He believed the judgement was against the express provisions of the Constitution, the Electoral Act and the Guideline and Regulation issued by INEC under which the election was conducted.
He said: “The Supreme Court of Nigeria being the last hope of the people, have decided the more than obvious embarrassing and fraudulent situation in Delta State in what the public of Nigeria and particularly Deltans have woken up to see this day”.
The renowned criminologist said that the general darkness across the State upon the delivery of the judgment was an ominous sign of a ghostly situation which portend consequences because of the disappointment embedded in the judgment.
“I, as Kenneth O. Gbagi FMIN, OON have taken this first stage that has ended with the judgement of the Supreme Court today on behalf of Deltans and the good people of Nigeria.
While congratulating Sheriff Oborevwori over the validation of his election victory by the Supreme Court, the former chairman of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, said: “I will do a deep consultation with my political folks and will come up with a far reaching decision more again in the interest of the great people of Delta State.
“I enjoin all my teeming supporters to take a deep breathe and get ready as we have just begun”, he added.
