Anambra State Government has advised Ndị Anambra living in flood-prone Local Government Areas and Communities to begin to immediately move their crops, poultry, fish ponds and domestic animals to safe places to avoid being caught unawares by flooding.
The State’s Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu gave the advise in a video being circulated in various social media platforms.
According to him, the advise followed recent warnings of high rainfall and floods expected this year from Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Among the high risk local government areas mentioned by the Commissioner are Ogbaru, Ayamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West, Onitsha South, Onitsha North, Awka North, Idemili South, Ekwusigo and Ihiala.
Sir Nwosu further reminded them that the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps set up by Governor Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, is still in place, urging them to move the elderly, women and children to the camps immediately.
He equally urged them to contact their Local Government Emergency Management Committee (LASEMA) if in doubt, even as he prayed that the State would not lose anybody to flood this year.
Nwosu further disclosed that the Anambra State Flood Response Committee, led by the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, in collaboration with SEMA, will release more advisory in days ahead to communities on flood plane to know what to do and urged Local Government Chairmen and Community Leaders to comply with the life-saving directives that will be issued soon.
