The newly acquired gear includes turnout coats and pants, gloves, protective helmets, fire boots, undergarments, socks, and eye and hearing protection to enhance firefighters’ safety and efficiency.

During an inspection of Fire Officers dressed in the new PPE, the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof Mobolaji Aluko, commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for prioritising the welfare and capacity of the Fire Service. He noted that the swift response of firefighters to the recent fire outbreak at a popular filling station in Ado-Ekiti prevented what could have been a devastating loss of lives and property, demonstrating the agency’s readiness to tackle emergencies.

Prof Aluko urged officers to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the PPE. Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr Olumide Ajayi, called on the public to adopt preventive measures to minimise fire incidents.

Ajayi emphasised that the procurement aligns with the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen fire services, following the rehabilitation of several Fire Service vehicles. He assured that the government remains committed to providing the necessary resources for optimal performance.

The Director of Fire Service, Mr Olusola Famosaya, expressed gratitude to the state government for its prompt intervention and pledged that the Service would intensify efforts in fire prevention and rapid response to emergencies across Ekiti.
