In his address on the theme ‘Use and Abuse of Technology,’ Osinbajo, who was represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Adeola Ipaye, said the recommendations will be studied and implemented

He said, “Let me also note that the recommendations of this 22nd Trafficking in Persons Report on human trafficking released on July 19, 2022, by the US government, which is here to stimulate interactions and creating partnerships is very well received.

“Our recommendations for Nigeria have been noted. And as a country, we will continue to scale our efforts in the area of prosecution prevention, protection, policy and partnership.”

The Vice President who commended NAPTIP and its partners for their work also noted that the government is playing its part at the policy level.

Speaking earlier, the Director General of NAPTIP, Dr Fatima Waziri-Azi, revealed that her agency has taken its anti-trafficking efforts to endemic communities.

Meanwhile, a group, the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour has highlighted the role of technology in tracking and preventing child trafficking.

The Non-Governmental Organisation said this at a press briefing held to commemorate World Day Against Human Trafficking with the themed, ‘Use and Abuse of Technology’, in Yaba Lagos on Monday.

During the event, the National President of NACTAL, Abdul Abubakar, disclosed that with the shift to a more digitalised world because of the pandemic, traffickers have now intensified their acts to groom and recruit victims.

He added that now, more than ever, there is a need for people to be conscious of their Internet consumption.
