The Federal Govt has reiterated its commitment to the Safe Cities Initiatives aimed at reducing crimes and improving safety in cities across the country.
The Commandant General Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi disclosed this while declaring open the SECUREX West Africa Exhibition at Landmark Centre, Oniru Lekki, Lagos.
According to Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Safe Cities Initiative require the full support of security forces, civil society organisations, religious leaders, who have a large role to play in promoting peace and stability in the country.
The NSCDC Commandant General noted that the last Presidential election heightened political tensions, ethnic and religious divide, while economic disparities further contributed to the present unrest in the nation.
He disclosed that, to mitigate these crises, security forces have been deployed to maintain peace, order and prevent violence, especially during the forthcoming May 29th inauguration handing over ceremony.
In his contribution, Mr George Pearson, Regional Director Afrocet Montgomery the organizer of SECUREX WA exhibition noted that Lagos has emerged as the leading megacity in Africa and require modern range of tech driven smart city solutions for new and urban built environment.
George Pearson further stated that SECUREX has come to be known as the foremost exhibition for regional and intl suppliers to meet , network and transact business with some of the biggest companies in the region requiring security products and services.
