Prof. Mohammed Haruna, former Chief Executive of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has urged the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Nasarawa state to sustain it’s governorship zoning arrangement.
Haruna made the call in an interview with newsmen in Keffi local government area of the state on Tuesday.

According to him, the arrangement which has been in place since the emergence of APC as the ruling party in the state has fostered unity, stability and understanding among the political class and the people of the state.
He said the zoning arrangement was set up to ensure that no senatorial zone in the state is denied the opportunity to produce the governor of the state hence the need for it to be sustained.
“If there is no zoning, there is tendency that one zone can be marginalized. This is why this zoning arrangement is fair and should be sustained,” he said.
Haruna added that by the zoning arrangement calculation, it is only fair that the baton of leadership in the state should be handed over to a candidate from the western zone given the fact that the zoning arrangement has gone around the senatorial zones in the state.
“By the time Governor Abdullahi Sule would be rounding up his second tenure, the western zone would have missed the leadership of the state for 20 years. Western have spent 8 years. Southern zone has spent 12 years and northern zone is about completing its own 8 years.
“So it is only fair it should come back to the Western zone. You can’t say Southern zone should start because they have spent 12 years and handed over the leadership to northern zone. You cant also say Northern zone should continue because they are just finishing.
“Common sense and fairness requires that the western zone where the zoning arrangement started should be the next zone to produce our next governor,” he said.
He praised APC for always emphasizing on the zoning arrangement and ensuring that the zone expected to produce the next governor is given the opportunity to do so.
“This effort promotes peace and stability. So I support the zoning arrangement.
He then praised the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule for always opening it’s doors to consultations and ideas from all and sundry.
“His leadership is an all inclusive leadership. Secondly he is a good manager of resources. You can see in all the zones infrastructural developments and how the administration has been able to build the capacity of the youths through human capacity,” he said.
