The rich tapestry of Egbe heritage, unity, and tradition took centre stage as the Lagos State Government proudly supported the 12th Annual Egbe Cultural Festival, which was held from April 22nd to 24th, 2025, at the scenic Suntan Beach in Badagry, Lagos.
The festival, which aligned perfectly with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s Themes Plus agenda, champions the indigenous culture while strategically attracting investors to the state’s unique array of tourist attractions.

Representing the Governor, Mr. Idowu Johnson, CEO of the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, delivered a keynote address emphasising the critical importance of preserving cultural heritage amidst rapid modernisation. His words resonated with the festival’s core themes of cultural pride and sustainable development.
The festival was honoured by the presence of the esteemed Oba Asagbemi Temiadara Ariwajoye, Arujeje of Akoko Land, who expressed profound gratitude to all attendees and sponsors.
He extended particular appreciation to the Lagos State Government for its consistent and unwavering support since the festival’s initial endorsement. Oba Asagbemi also offered heartfelt blessings for Lagos State, wishing it continued prosperity and success on the national stage.
Over the three days of vibrant celebration, attendees were immersed in a diverse array of activities. These included enriching visits to local tourist centres, respectful homage paid to local Obas, and captivating cultural showcases featuring the rhythmic mastery of traditional Sato Drummers, dynamic dance performances, symbolic Egbe exhibitions, age-old sacrifices to deities (Orisa), and the elegant Culture Worldwide Beauty Pageant.
The festival’s ceremonial opening parade was a visual spectacle, with various Egbe groups adorned in resplendent and colourful attire that proudly celebrated their deep cultural roots. The Egbe Night rituals provided a poignant experience, honouring ancestral spirits and strengthening communal bonds under the starlit beachside.
The grand finale of the festival culminated in a breathtaking display from prominent Egbe groups, including Orisa Iyalode, Orisa Ajaguna Isembaye Agbaye, Igba Aje Agbaye, Igba Olokun Isembaye Agbaye, Orisa Iyemoja Isembaye Agbaye, Igba Osun Isembaye Agbaye, and Orisa Korikoto Isembaye Agbaye.
The event also featured the prestigious presentation of awards to cultural Legends and Icons, and the highly anticipated coronation of Miss Culture Worldwide 2025, symbolising the global recognition of cultural beauty and pride.
