The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Thursday, said it had secured the conviction of at least 3,615 since 2016.

The EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, disclosed this during the 62nd session of the State House Ministerial Media briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Rock Villa Abuja.

According to him, “as of December 9, 2022, the EFCC has already recorded 3,615 convictions. In 2022, we recorded the highest number of convictions, over 2000 of them.”

He noted that over 50 per cent of the convictions were based on various forms of cybercrimes.

Bawa, however, noted that several prosecution cases are being delayed as the agency requires more time to establish evidence, expose more culprits, amongst others.

He also noted that N354bn was recovered from a company that he did not name.

The EFCC boss said he could not name the company concerned due to the sensitivity of the case and ongoing investigations.
