Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has described education as the future that should not be toyed with.
Governor Soludo was speaking during the 27 years celebration of the existence of Holy Child Secondary School, Isuofia under the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulọbịa, Aguata Council Area.
According to Governor Soludo, he indulges in education support, not to receive praises but as a way of thanking God for His benevolence.
“Education is life. It is the future and today of every human being”
“We started the one youth two skills initiative to educate our young people on relevant skills.
He added that the Innovation District Initiative where 10,000 youths will be trained on digital skills will soon commence across the twenty one local government areas of the state.
“Our main agenda is to bring smile to those who have been virtually forgotten”, he stated.
The Governor went on to recall his experience when he embarked on a journey to Enugu Otu and Mkpunando, he revealed that he was moved to tears when he released that there was no single tarred road there.
“We drove for more than an hour, no single road. Over thirty kilometres of the road.
He noted that he has criss-crossed the twenty one local government areas of the state where he is constructing over 260 kilometer of roads in the first phase.
While cautioning the students against joining the few who are destroying the society, he tasked them on being good citizens, reminding them that their future is in their hands.
Giving a homily, Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia, Peter Ebere Cardinal Okpaleke stated that during the recent Catholic Bishops’ Conference, they brainstormed about citizens’ participation in good governance. He admonished that if citizens refuse to listen to the call for them to take up their responsibility, they will regret it.
On the political angle, the Cardinal said: “This is a critical period that such participation is at the core of the realization of the common good.
Continuing, he stated that: “Now is the time. People are already applying to serve at the different rungs of political leadership in the country. We must first scrutinize them well”, the Bishop admonished.
The Cardinal further revealed that people are crying as a result of the economic situation in the country, adding that they must not fail to look for and elect leaders that will help reverse the situation for a better nation. He also asked them to reject evil, whether greater or lesser.
“We must look for someone capable of governing the country for the common good of all. Our votes are very precious and we must use it wisely”, the Prelate added.
A special ceremony of presentation of souvenirs to the Governor and planting of the silver jubilee tree were parts of the highlight at the mass celebration.
