The Lagos State Education District IV recently celebrated its 20th Merit Award and Honours Day, recognising exceptional Teachers, Staff and Students for their outstanding contributions to the District’s growth.

The year 2023 achievement celebration was held at Government College Hall, Eric Moore, Surulere. The event witnessed dignitaries from the education sector, Royal Fathers and Religious Leaders within the District Zones.

 

In his address, Hon. Eniola Opeyemi, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, congratulated the awardees for being exceptional among their colleagues. He emphasised the significant role of Teachers and Education Administration in shaping the State and Nigeria at large.

 

He reiterated the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to education in the State, describing him as Teacher-friendly, “I am also proud to identify myself as a teacher”, he added.

 

While delivering the opening remarks, the Tutor-General/ Permanent Secretary of Education District IV, Mr. Olusegun Osinaike welcomed all in excitement and applauded the awardees, noting that they have all done well and the District will continue to recognise their hard work and perseverance.

 

Osinaike appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the regular recruitment and replacement of staff to the District, describing him as a lover of Education who wants the best for teachers and students of the state. He encouraged the awardees to be role models and strive for more in their teaching career which will ultimately sustain quality education.

The high point of the event was the presentation of an award of recognition to the TG/PS, Mr. Olusegun Osinaike for his exemplary leadership by Gbaja Girls Old Students and All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Surulere Zone.

 

The Year 2023 award of Best Principal and Best School was presented to Mrs. Oyefeso Adenike, Principal of Ghaja Girls Senior High School, while l the Junior category award was received by Mrs. Olokodana Elizabeth Titilayo, Principal of Government College Junior.

The Best Teacher Senior category was presented to Mr. Oyewale Wasiu Abioye from Wesley Girls Senior and Dr. Sule Peace emerged Best Teacher Junior category from Akoka Junior High School.

 

Best student in BECE 2023 award went to Miss Chisom Wilson from Aguda Community Junior and the Best Student WASSCE 2023 was received by Miss Ruth Jacob of Obele Community Senior High School.

 

Some other Principals, Vice principals, Teachers and Students were also honoured for representing the District in State and International competitions, winning the star prizes.
