The Commissioner for Ministry of Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Hon. Dr. Donatus Chukwuma Ilang has charged the newly elected Executive Members of Enyim/Edukwu Opoke Agalagu Village to run an inclusive government and promote peaceful coexistence in their area.

Ilang gave this charge over the weekend during the election of the new executives at Enyim/Edukwu Opoke Agalagu Village play ground in Ndufu-Alike Ikwo Autonomous Community, Ikwo Local Government Area.

 

Addressing the stakeholders and the community in general immediately after the election, the commissioner commended them for their peaceful conduct in chosing their leaders, expressing his confidence that it will usher in development in Enyim/Edukwu Opoke Agalagu Village.

The Commissioner further enjoined the officers to endeavour to unite the people and run inclusive government while discharging their duties.

 

He also appreciated the Town Union President of Ndufu-Alike Ikwo Mr. Chibuike Igwe, Former Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Hon. David Onuoha and the youths of the area for their resilience and commitment in conducting the election.

 

Speaking, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Security, Ikwo Local Government Area, Hon. Edeke Desmond, thanked the people of Enyim- Edukwu Opoke Agalagu for turning out in mass to vote for the people of their choice and assured them of the protection of lives and property in the area.

Earlier in his remarks, the Town Union President of Ndufu-Alike Ikwo Community, Mr. Chibuike Igwe noted that the election becomes necessary following the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing executives of the village led by Mr. Ifeanyi Opoke, assuring the people of smooth transition from the outgoing executives to the incoming executives.

In their vote of thanks, the Former Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Hon. David Onuoha, the Village Head, Mr. Anthony Itumo and the Rtd. Police Officer, Romanus Nwakpu on behalf of the people, thanked the Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru and the Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Hon. Dr. Donatus Ilang for creating an enabling environment for the conduct of the election.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman of Enyim/Edukwu Opoke Agalagu Federated Union, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo Autonomous Community, Mr. Chukwuma Oboke, on behalf of his executive members, appreciated the people for electing him and solicited the support of his opponents in the election to move the community forward.

 

Highlights of the event were the swearing-in of the newly elected Executive Members and the embracing of the opposition leader, Anthony Itumo into the camp of the elected executives.
