The Presidential Health Reform Commitee on Wednesday Presented her Report on Key Policy Recommendations from the citizen led health Agenda. The event which took place at Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja had Health stakeholders cut across WHO, FMOH, CHATHAM HOUSE, amongst others.

 

Prominent among the keynote speakers and Panelist was the APC National Women Leader, Dr Betta Edu a member of the Presidential Health Reform Committee who emphasized on recrafting Nigeria healthcare stories to make them appealing to political leaders.

 

She Highlighted political gains in Health Policy Reform as key.According to her Political leaders battle with competing priorities from different sectors, hence the need to be strategic.

 

“The Current Administration will accelerate healthcare reforms and move towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).The President is determined to provide Health For All in Nigeria. She noted.

 

The Special Adviser to the President on Health Dr Salma Asna who spoke at the meeting reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to restructure the health sector and set it on the right track to achieving Universal Health Care. She noted that there are some hanging fruits and windows of Opportunity which the New President will capitalize on to fix the health sector.

 

She took note of the various contributions from stakeholders present which will form part of her brief to the President alongside the report from the Presidential Health reform Committee

 

The WHO Country Rep, Kazadi Mulombo disclosed that one of the five key priorities articulated by World Health Organisation is the reorientation of health systems towards primary health care as the foundation of universal health coverage. It is the right time to set the pace for Health for all in Nigeria.

 

Also Rob Yates, the Executive Director Centre for Universal Health Chatham House said now is the time for UHC reforms in Nigeria, and political commitment to Universal health coverage (UHC) as it is the first step in achieving Health For All in the country.

 

The Meeting was Convened by Dr Gafar Alawode of the UHC 2023 Forum Advocacy Organization. The forum was attended by Representatives from World Bank, Traditional Rulers, National Primary Health care Development Agency amongst others.
