Asaba, Delta State – October 29, 2025

The Young Nigerian Rights Organization (YNRO) has raised a fresh alarm over the ongoing attempts by the Delta State Police Command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda to stage a hurried “auction” of impounded motorcycles in Ibusa Community and the Command Headquarters, Asaba, as a cover-up for alleged large-scale corruption, abuse of office, and economic sabotage.

According to credible intelligence gathered by YNRO, the Delta State Police Command, through one DSP Winnie of the Operations Department, few months ago disposed some motorcycles without securing an interim forfeiture/final forfeiture orders and even allowing the owners of these motorcycles to appeal cause they all have a right to own a property in the the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended but they were denied such fundamental rights despite guarantees from the constitution. *They never also engaged the services of Auctioneers Chairman in Delta State and his members, they never published or advertised via traditional or new media platforms, but today they are planning and organizing an auction since we exposed them to give a false impression of legality after illegally confiscating and converting motorcycles belonging to Hausa/Fulani (Northerner) residents of Delta State.

YNRO acknowledges and supports the Delta State Government’s legitimate ban on motorcycles in certain areas for security reasons,* _but no Government directive ever authorized the sale or personal conversion of citizens’ properties by Police Leadership of Delta State Police Command. Their use of 911 trucks to haul motorcycles from Hausa/Fulani homes in Ibusa into Police facilities and private custody represents a clear case of theft and ethnic discrimination, not law enforcement._

We call on all Deltans, Civil Society’s/NGOs groups, and stakeholders, particularly our Northern brothers and sisters to stay alert, document, and monitor all suspicious auction activities at Ibusa and Asaba Police facilities. Surveillance and silent observation are necessary to prevent these criminal attempt to launder stolen assets through fake/ now legit administrative forfeiture processes.

YNRO respectfully urges the ICPC, EFCC, and NFIU to immediately investigate the financial flows and possible proxy accounts linked to the Delta State Police Command’s leadership.* We also call on the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, to demonstrate the same disciplinary firmness that saw the demotion and prosecution of AIG Ben Igwe and other senior officers by holding CP Olufemi Abaniwonda and his team accountable under the same standards of justice and transparency.

We further appeal to the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Chief Kingsley Emu, a man known for integrity and service, not to allow himself or the Delta State Government to be used to legitimize these CRIMINAL CONVERSIONS.*

*This issue TRANSCENDS TRIBE, POLITICS, or POSITION, it is a MORAL TEST FOR ALL NIGERIANS.* The Hausa/Fulani (Northerners) victims whose means of livelihood were DESTROYED deserve JUSTICE, RESTITUTION, and ACCOUNTABILITY.

_The Young Nigerian Rights Organization and our allies in the Leadership of Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) will continue to mobilize, advocate, and support the victims until every officer implicated in this criminal cover-up faces the full weight of the law.

JUSTICE delayed is INJUSTICE sustained. Delta State must not become a theatre for CORRUPTION disguised as law enforcement.
