The Safe school initiative programme is one of the proactive steps taken by the President Muhamadu Buhari administration to ensure safety and security of our schools, students, teachers and the schools facilities or properties. It was a pet project of the minister of interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Dr Abubakar Audi Ahmed PhD mni before it was adopted by the federal government.
In line with the above, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Delta State Command has assured all schools in the State of the readiness of the Command to provide and ensure adequate security protection of all schools in Delta State.
The assurance was given by the Delta State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun represented by the Commands Public Relations Officer Dsc Emeka Peters Okwechime when he visited the State Commissioner for Education in his office in Asaba the Delta State Capital
Commandant Akinsanya opined that the sole responsibilities of protection of all government Critical National Assets and Infrastructure which encompasses schools amongst others lies within jurisdiction of the NSCDC as enshrined in section 3 subsection 1,2 and 3 of the NSCDC act of 2007 as amended
The NSCDC Boss maintained that the agency has garnered everything it takes to protect life and property and to defend the defenceless through constant training and retraining, drills, workshops, seminars, symposium etc
On his part, the Commissioner of Education represented by the permanent secretary ministry of Education Mr Oworo Augustine stressed the need for safety, security and the protection of schools to forestall any attempt of breakdown of law and order in schools across the state.
While thanking and commending the NSCDC the Commissioner stated that agency has lived and achieved beyond expectations. He promised to convey the message to the right channel for it’s operational take off.
He emphasized the need to partner and synergize with security agencies particularly the NSCDC who has the legitimate jurisdiction over schools in terms of security and saddled with the responsibilities of protection of government critical national assets and Infrastructure in Country, the Education Commissioner said.
