After a hiatus of 10 years, Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC has finally announced the conduction of local government elections in the state.

A notice signed by the State Chief Electoral Officer, Genevieve Osakwe, ESQ, revealed that the election will be held on September 28, 2024.

 

The notice reads as follows; “Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission wishes to inform all registered Political Parties and the general public that Local Government Elections in the State will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

 

“Election Timetable/Schedule of Activities and other details can be collected from the Headquarters of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, Awka, from Wednesday, 14th August, 2024”, she concluded.

 

With the announcement, the state’s Election Commission has initiated the process of election in its entirety.

 

The decision has been welcomed by the citizens of the state who have been eagerly waiting for this day.

 

The local government elections are expected to witness a significant turnout as the citizens are excited to exercise their franchise.

 

The authorities have also assured full transparency in the election process, ensuring free and fair conduct for all participants.

 

This election is considered to be a crucial step in the evolution of democracy in the state.

 

It is on record that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo had always demonstrated readiness to conduct the Council polls.

 

The state government has also encouraged participation from all sections of the society, including women, youth, and marginalized communities, urging them to come forward and contest in the elections.
