Davido Connects with Highlife Music Legend, Bright Chimezie, Gifts $1m Support….details
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has met with highlife legend Bright Chimezie in Lagos, days after acknowledging the veteran musician’s influence on his latest song.
In videos on Instagram, Davido was seen exchanging warm greetings and engaging in cheerful conversation with Chimezie, who is famed for his energetic “Zigima” music style.
The in-person meeting follows a recent video call between the two artists, during which Davido credited Chimezie’s 2018 song ‘Because of English’ as the inspiration behind his new track ‘With You’, featuring Omah Lay.
“I got inspiration from your song. God bless you,” Davido said during the virtual chat, a clip of which was shared by nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest.
Davido also previewed the ‘With You’ music video for Chimezie during the call and extended an invitation to meet in person, saying, “It would be nice to meet you face-to-face.”
Chimezie, visibly touched, praised the new single as “a beautiful piece of work” and expressed gratitude for Davido’s recognition of his musical legacy.
Davido pays legendary Nigerian singer, Bright Chimezie $1-million for sampling his song on “With You” feat. Omah Lay.
He called Bright Chimezie—the man whose music inspired him—and gave him $1 million, just for sampling his song. Not just that, he also gave him 40% royalties on the song. Then he gave Omah Lay 50%. And Davido? He took just 10%.
The biggest hit on his “5IVE” album, and he’s not even chasing the money. He’s chasing fulfilment, love, joy… and legacy. He just wants everyone around him to win.
