Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated The Nation Newspaper family for winning the Newspaper of The Year Award at the 32nd edition of the Diamond Awards of Media Excellence (DAME) for the third consecutive year.
In a congratulatory message transmitted to the Managing Director of The Nation Newspaper, Mr. Victor Ifijeh on his behalf by the Honourable Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the Governor said, “I would also like to acknowledge the Editor of the Year Award and other notable recognitions bagged by this newspaper from a credible organisation led by frontline media chiefs”.
Sanwo-Olu opined that The Nation “continues to grow in stature and influence” because of its exceptional performance, buoyed by journalists who have distinguished themselves in their various beats. These remarkable accomplishments, he noted, served as a testament to the unwavering hard work and dedication exhibited by the staff since The Nation’s establishment on July 31, 2006.
Drawing a parallel, the Governor said: “It is noteworthy that Lagos shares some values with the Newspaper – our resilience, endurance and tenacity; the ability to bounce back after a bad experience. This is what we call the Spirit of Lagos. It never quits; it never gets tired; and it never loses focus and dynamism”.
He expressed confidence that the wealth of experience, scholarship, commitment and dedication displayed by the reporters and production crew of the newspaper will continue to make it retain its status as the best in the country.
