Customs, Federal Fire Service Collaborate to Enhance Emergency Preparedness

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Fire Service joined forces to enhance emergency response.

 

This landmark session on fire safety and security protocols took place at Customs Training College (CTC) Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, 17 May 2024.

The Assistant Comptroller-General/Zonal Controller of Federal Fire Service, Zone F, Chika Njoku, who led the insightful lecture for selected officers, emphasised the importance of knowledge dissemination and collaborative efforts in tackling emergencies.

 

He further noted the pivotal role of collaboration in emergency response, stating, “When it comes to fire incidents, the fire service is the lead agency while other agencies are supportive elements.”

 

He explained that the collaborative effort between the Federal Fire Service and the NCS signifies a proactive approach towards enhancing emergency preparedness and the importance of inter-agency cooperation in safeguarding lives and property.

 

He expressed his satisfaction with the participants’ engagement following their questions.

 

On his part, the Commandant of the Customs Training College, Deputy Comptroller Haniel Hadison, lauded the initiative, noting its alignment with the institution’s commitment to capacity building and inter-agency cooperation.

 

“Today is a new part in the college. This is the maiden edition of inviting an organisation, Federal Fire Service, to come and speak to our officers on capacity training on their role, particularly security agencies’ roles in an emergency.

 

“The session provided comprehensive insights into fire safety procedures, preventive measures, and the roles of various agencies during emergencies,” he stated.

 

Emphasising the continuous nature of such collaborations, Hadison affirmed, “It’s a continuous exercise. We will continue to bring in other relevant government agencies.”
