Chief Justice Ariwoola Bows Out @70

Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Olukayode Ariwoola, is set to formally retire today on his 70th birthday, marking the end of his tenure as the 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria.

 

Justice Ariwoola joined the Supreme Court on November 22, 2011, and subsequently assumed the role of Chief Justice of Nigeria on June 27, 2022, after the resignation of his predecessor, Justice Tanko Muhammad.

In keeping with established customs, the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, CFR, will temporarily assume the role as his successor.

 

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has put forth her name to the President as the recommended candidate for the position of substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
