The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the end of VIP privileges at airport access tollgates as part of efforts to strengthen revenue collection under a reinstated cashless and hybrid payment system.

Speaking during an on-site assessment at the tollgate of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, the minister said a large portion of revenue had previously been lost due to exemptions granted to influential individuals.

Keyamo noted that many people in Abuja claim official status, often carrying federal government titles on their business cards, which has contributed to widespread requests for special treatment at toll points.

He stressed that the federal government is committed to transitioning fully to a cashless system, in line with a directive that prohibits government agencies from collecting cash payments.

According to the minister, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given a clear deadline for the full implementation of the cashless policy, urging the aviation ministry to ensure strict compliance across all agencies under its supervision.

Keyamo added that he would personally oversee the implementation process to ensure the hybrid payment system is properly enforced before a complete transition to cashless operations.

The minister made the remarks while monitoring the rollout of the hybrid payment system at the airport tollgate, following the president’s earlier decision to temporarily halt the full cashless policy.
