Singer BNXN, formerly known as Buju, has implored Nigerians not to take his “spat in a police officers face” tweet seriously even as the police have vowed to sanction him for assault on a law enforcement officer.

BNXN on Thursday said people should not take the now deleted tweet to literally mean he spat on the officer’s face.

“My since deleted tweet stating that I spat in a police officer’s face was an idiomatic expression to say I disrespected a police officer to his face and not the literal way people may have taken it on social media. I do not support violence or abuse against the police in any form.” The singer tweeted.

In a viral post on Wednesday, BNXN tweeted: “Spat in a police officer’s face and it felt so good. I let you in my car and you dragged and tear my shirt and start slapping me?? Nah everybody must stop!”

The tweet appeared to irk police authorities as spokesman Ben Hundeyin said the artist will be brought to book for gloating about assaulting a police man.

“@BNXN proudly tweeted that he ‘spat in a police officer’s face and it felt so good.’ He has since deleted the tweet. The police officers will be sanctioned for their misbehavior if established, while @BNXN will surely answer for his assault on a police officer,” Mr Hundeyin responded via a tweet.

To further exonerate himself, BNXN explained that his action was a response to a “life threatening situation which caused me to lash out due to the physical assault on me by some policemen who have now been brought to book.”

He stressed further: “I stood on my right as a responsible Nigerian, despite the violence against my person and I do not want my deleted tweet to be taken seriously. I appreciate the swift intervention of some reputable police officers on this matter too. Love.”

The Finesse crooner said he was now focused on his music.
