….Vows to extend the job on the cemetery to ensure quality job done
…..Inspects Riv Cares program, Minama primary Healthcare centre and Sangama junction vandalized transmission lines.
In a commendable move, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Asari Toru Local Government Area, The Rt Hon Orolosama Amachree, has embarked on an unscheduled visit to the long-abandoned Buguma City Cemetery, signaling the commencement of restoration work at the site.
During his visit, the Chairman expressed deep dismay at the neglect of the only revenue-generating asset for the local government, which has been left untended for over 20 years. Lamenting the fact that the cemetery has become more akin to a virgin forest, the Chairman noted that the unfortunate situation has forced many residents to seek burial services in Port Harcourt and other neighboring areas.
Determined to rectify this issue, the Chairman has ordered the immediate construction of a landing jetty and the commencement of various other restoration projects at the cemetery. In a move to empower the local community, the Chairman has engaged over 500 youths to carry out the work, with the jobs being executed in shifts.
“The gesture of using the youths instead of machines is to empower them while they are restoring the cemetery,” stated the Chairman, who also promised to extend the job duration to a month as requested by the youths. The youths, expressing their gratitude, have declared the Chairman as a “God-sent” to Asari Toru LGA.
The Chairman’s visit also included a stopover at the Buguma City Conference Center, where he witnessed the World Bank-funded Poverty Alleviation Program, “The Poorest of the Poor.” The organizers, Riv Cares, made a passionate plea for the Chairman’s support, citing a lack of interest and funding from the community. Acknowledging the importance of the program, the Chairman promised to provide financial and logistical assistance, in addition to handing out cash gifts to the participants, which was met with thunderous applause.
Furthermore, the Chairman inspected the Model Primary Healthcare Center in Minama, where he vowed to ensure the facility functions at its optimal capacity. He also visited Sangama, where he directed the clearing of overgrown weeds and the restoration of vandalized power lines to improve the community’s living conditions.
This comprehensive visit by the Chairman Caretaker Committee of Asari Toru Local Government, The Rt Hon Orolosama Amachree, has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the development and welfare of the people within the local government area. The restoration of the Buguma City Cemetery, the support for the poverty alleviation program, and the attention to healthcare and infrastructure are all testament to the Chairman’s dedication to improving the lives of the residents of Asari Toru LGA.
