The Federal Government has launched the Presidential Food and Nutrition Assistance Programme in Plateau State as part of efforts to support vulnerable households affected by food insecurity, economic pressure, climate disruptions, insecurity, and displacement.

The flag off ceremony was held on Monday in Jos, marking the start of the distribution of essential food and nutrition support to affected communities.

The programme was led by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, alongside the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang.

The initiative forms part of a broader presidential intervention aimed at providing immediate humanitarian relief while strengthening long term resilience among vulnerable populations.

Officials at the event emphasized the importance of sustainable support, noting that the programme is designed not only for emergency assistance but also as a bridge to structured social protection systems and long term poverty reduction.

The intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which prioritises food security, poverty reduction, and stronger social protection frameworks.

Similar programmes have been launched in other states as part of a nationwide response to hunger and malnutrition.

The programme targets households most affected by recent economic and security challenges, including children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers who require specialised nutrition support.
