The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians regarding the purchase and consumption of an unsafe brand of Mayonnaise known as “Whippy Mayonnaise.”
According to NAFDAC’s statement, the discovery of the harmful product was made after receiving and investigating a consumer complaint in Ilorin, Kwara State. The Mayonnaise was found to have been sourced locally from the manufacturer SNF FOODS Limited in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Samples were taken from different batches of the product and subjected to laboratory analysis at NAFDAC’s Laboratory. The results showed unsatisfactory outcomes, indicating that the Mayonnaise had become rancid and had changed in color from its original state.
As a precautionary measure, NAFDAC has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance and recall the implicated batches of the unwholesome Whippy Real Mayonnaise
Distributors, retailers, and consumers are urged to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid purchasing, selling, or consuming the affected batches of the Mayonnaise. NAFDAC advises checking the authenticity and physical condition of the product before use.
Individuals in possession of the mentioned batches of Whippy Real Mayonnaise are advised to submit their stock to the nearest NAFDAC office. If anyone has consumed the product and experienced any adverse reactions, they are advised to seek immediate medical advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
Additionally, the public is encouraged to report any suspicions of the distribution and sale of unwholesome packaged food products to the nearest NAFDAC office or through NAFDAC’s hotline at 0800-162-3322 or via email: sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng
