Scores of people are feared dead due to an attack by suspected armed bandits on Yelwata community.
A Statement by the Public Relations Officer, Benue State Police Command, Udeme Edet, says the suspected Bandits invaded yelwata community early hours of Saturday.
The statement indicates that police and tactical teams posted to the town and reinforcement responded swiftly to the attack resulting in the neutralization of some of the attackers. It notes that some individuals lost their lives and others sustained injuries.
It adds that the security operatives are still in pursuit of the attackers and will continue to keep everyone safe.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor, Sam Ode, has made an on-the-spot visit to Yelwata to assess the aftermath of the fatal attack on the community, where he condemned the unprovoked killings and re-emphasized Government’s commitment to reinforcing security in vulnerable areas.
He empathized with the people with an assurance of doing all humanly possible to avoid a recurrence of the dastardly invasion.
