….urges IGP over Aide’s Detention
Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to direct the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Gothan, to immediately release his aide, Abiodun Adegoke Apesin, who has been in detention for more than five days.
The Governor said Adegoke was being held in connection with a defamation petition, describing the continued detention as a violation of his fundamental human rights.
He noted that the alleged offence is non-capital and bailable under Nigerian law, yet bail has reportedly been repeatedly denied despite compliance with police conditions.
Governor Adeleke accused the Osun Police Command of acting in a partisan manner, warning that such actions could threaten peace and security in the state.

He recalled a similar incident involving another aide, Iyiola Monsuru, who was previously detained without a formal police invitation.
“The Osun Police Command appears to be losing professionalism. Individuals are being detained indefinitely without charges or bail, sometimes based on verbal petitions from opposition figures,” the Governor said.
He urged the Inspector General of Police to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of Adegoke and cautioned against the police being used for political purposes.
Adeleke stressed that law enforcement must remain impartial and uphold the rule of law to protect citizens’ rights and maintain public trust in Osun State.
