Nollywood actor Gideon Okeke has announced a separation from his wife Chidera Udueze as their four-year-old marriage hits the rocks.
The actor on Sunday shared the shocking news on Instagram, disclosing how he had been humbled by the “breakfast”, a terminology used to describe heartbreak.
“You wouldn’t believe it if I told you that l’m separated from My marriage right? No you wouldn’t..so grab a seat.
“It is in the interest of clarity and a clear conscience that this becomes imperative. But yea…Breakfast reach Me too. Las Las.
“It’s been a hard hot pill I’ve had to swallow, and boy…it sure humbles one,” Gideon wrote.
Gideon, who first came to the limelight after participating in the first ever edition of Big Brother Nigeria in 2006, is also popular for his outstanding performance in the early years of Tinsel, 93 days, Gbomo Gbomo express and other projects.
He noted that his fame makes it imperative for him to update the public on the condition of his marriage.
“This PSA wouldn’t be so important (to Me), but for the trap that I find FAME to be sometimes. Gagged.”
Gideon urged the public to respect his privacy as he and his wife work to perfect their divorce by not texting or calling.
“But as I look to the future.. pray for My BOYS. Such Lovely Boys. Pls put us All In your prayers… no pity party. They need Mum and Dad sane, sound and strong for the fulfilment of their best interests and we are working towards it. Hard!”
Gideon and Chidera who had their traditional marriage in 2018, church wedding in 2019 and share two sons together, had sparked divorce rumours due to irreconcilable differences as early as May 2022 when they both unfollowed each other on social media, deleted posts of themselves, while Chidera removed Gideon’s surname from her profile.
The rumour mill attributed the marriage crash to the financial downturn of the husband. Gideon had been vocal about how film executives and producers have been impoverishing actors. In March, he called out movie producer Frank Rajah for owing him half a million naira for three years.
Gideon on several occasions had alluded to quitting the profession.
