Anambra State has done it again! Coming first in positive indices of development has now become a trend in the state. In a world where transparency often eludes public institutions, Anambra has emerged as a frontline paradigm of fiscal responsibility and excellence under the stewardship of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR.

The recent accolade by BudgIT, which ranked Anambra State first among all 36 Nigerian states in the States Fiscal Transparency League (SFTL), once again proves the profound impact of Governor Soludo’s innovative, responsible leadership. This feat in fiscal transparency is not merely a statistical victory but a further authentication of the transformative governance that has characterised his administration.

The SFTL ranking is a meticulous evaluation, scrutinising the availability and comprehensiveness of key fiscal data, the efficiency of state websites and e-Procurement portals, and the punctuality in publishing crucial financial information. It is a rigorous assessment that many falter at, yet Anambra State has excelled, setting a standard for others to follow.

This performance can be attributed to the seamless and timely management of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), proposed and approved budgets, and the operational efficacy of Anambra State’s e-Procurement portal.

Indeed, Governor Soludo’s stewardship of over two years has been marked by a relentless pursuit of transparency and accountability, principles that are pivotal for the sustainable development of any society. His administration’s commitment to fiscal transparency is reflective of his broader credo, “Doing More with Less,” a philosophy that prioritises prudence, efficiency, and the responsible use of resources. These values have not only enhanced the state’s financial management but have also reinforced public trust and engagement.

BudgIT, a civic organisation renowned for using creative technology to simplify public information, has been instrumental in highlighting the fiscal impact made by Anambra State under Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Their ranking initiative, which follows the World Bank’s State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability (SFTAS) Programme, aims to sustain the gains of fiscal transparency by continuing to track how well Nigerian states manage public resources. Anambra State’s leading position in this initiative is a clear indication of Governor Soludo’s dedication to maintaining high standards of governance.

Yet, this latest recognition is not an isolated event. Last year, BudgIT also named Anambra among the top 5 states in Nigeria for fiscal sustainability, further validating the state’s commitment to excellence across various sectors. Such accolades are emblematic of Governor Soludo’s holistic approach to governance, where fiscal responsibility goes hand in hand with broader societal and economic development.

But Governor Soludo’s exemplary leadership is not only about managing funds wisely; it is also about fostering an environment where transparency and accountability are the bedrock of public administration. His tenure has been marked by a proactive approach to governance, where open communication and public engagement are encouraged, and where every naira is accounted for with meticulous care.

No doubt, in the national class of Nigeria’s diverse states, Anambra will continue to stand out as a model of what effective leadership can achieve. And as we look towards the future, the impact of Governor Soludo’s leadership on Anambra State will shine continually as a powerful reminder that integrity, transparency, and accountability are the cornerstones of sustainable progress.

In the long term, the state’s rise to the top of the fiscal transparency rankings is also a sign of a broader commitment to responsible governance that promises to steer Anambra towards continued prosperity and development. It’s true: Soludo’s Solution is working.
