Still on the matter, the Organised Labour, comprising the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), is planning  to convene a joint extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting today.

 

The was confirmed by a source within the leadership of the two Labour Centres on Tuesday morning.

According to the source, the outcome of the meeting, will determine the fate of the ongoing strike action by the organised Labour.

 

Notably, the strike, started on Monday, June 2, 2024, having the organised labour demanding a new minimum wage while protesting the increase in electricity prices.

 

After a six-hour meeting with the leadership of organised labour in Abuja, the Federal Government expressed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to raising the proposed minimum wage of N60,000.

 

However, the agreement states that the President is committed to establishing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000. The Tripartite Committee, it was agreed, will convene daily for the next week to finalize an agreeable National Minimum Wage.

 

The organised labour agreed to hold meetings of its organs to consider this new offer.

 

And the resolutions were signed on behalf of the Federal Government by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
