Rivers State Public Primary School Alumni Calls for a Revamp of Current Public Schools in the State

The Old Pupils of Rivers State Primary Schools Association is calling for a greater attention and development on the state public schools from the state government and well-meaning individuals.

Co-Anchor head of the Association Angel Attah a.k.a Angel De Laugh made the call at the sideline of the Children’s Day match past activities to mark the 2024 Children’s day at the Civic Center football pitch.

He said the current state of some of the state public schools calls for serious concerns and actions.

“The idea is birthed out of concerns to ensure a rebirth of our public schools, and of course government concerns and interest for collaborative partnership to grow back the public schools as it was back then. This concept is first of its kind in Nigeria, first in historic moments we are taking part in the children’s day match past celebrations, to identify with the system, and identify with the children”.

Angel De Laugh who also spoke shortly after a quiz competition organized by members of the Old Pupils of Rivers State Primary Schools Association as part of its activities to celebrate the Children’s day explained that the quiz competition will help the pupils practice existing knowledge while stimulating interest in learning about new subject matter.

“We are giving back to these great schools that molded us, in a way by organizing this quiz competition and this is the first time in history we will be having alumnus coming together as family and give back to their primary school alumni. It’s indeed a noble one and special thanks to all who gave their money, time and talents to make this project a reality. We can’t wait to see a better primary school in the state again.

On her part anchor head for State School one and two Bernard Carr, Precious Ahiawo-Ovie said the quiz competition has exposed some gaps in the educational system in the state. She said more attention should be given to the pupils and upgrade of facilities in the school.

Meanwhile supervising Director of Port Harcourt City Local government area, Emem Okechukwu who was on needs assessment of the Port Harcourt Model Primary School said the state government is already putting measures in place to meet one of the challenges of most state public schools, which is lack of classroom teachers.

He said the presence of more teachers in the public schools, the standard of the schools will be improved.

Our correspondent reports that Sangana State School clinched the first post position at the Quiz competition while State School Ibadan came second and Army Children School clinched the third positions.

Our correspondent also reports the a band set for schools’ morning devotion, will be donated to participating schools.
