The Nigeria Customs Service @CustomsNG, Seme Area Command, intercepts a truck carrying 400 bags of beans valued at N61.4 million.
Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Timi Bomodi, announced this during his first press briefing of the year, emphasising efforts to curb illegal grain exports amid national food shortages.
The seized beans are secured in a government warehouse for eventual public sale.
Comptroller Bomodi also detailed anti-smuggling operations from January to February 2024, resulting in various seizures including foreign rice, fuel, vehicles, narcotics and firearms, with a total Duty Paid Value of N365.8 million.
Thirteen suspects were apprehended and revenue generation targets were discussed, with the Command nearing 88% of its expected revenue for January and February.
Additionally, the Command processed exports valued at N13.057 billion, with corresponding fees collected.
Comptroller Bomodi reiterated the NCS’s commitment to fortifying border defences amid increasing criminal activities.
