Rivers Women Unite for SIM has embarked on a peace walk to register their voice on the current political situation in the State. The sociopolitical pressure group is demanding for genuine peace and asking for respect for the office of the State Governor as enshrined in the constitution.
After an intensive road walk that took off at Corpus Christi Catholic Cathedral, CFC junction and terminated at the Polo Club in GRA phase 2, the group read out a 9-point resolution signed by its media officer, Glory N. Sunday stating that the women remain committed to the love and pursuit of peace for the overall growth and development of Rivers State.
According to her, “We affirm our resolve to support totally the Rivers State Government led by His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara in his efforts to protect Rivers State and realise the dreams and aspirations of her people”
“As mothers, we condemn violent activities in the state and also warn those who perpetuate them in order to further their political or other ambitions to stop forthwith, as we will not tolerate them anymore”
Ms. Sunday equally noted that the women frowned at the actions of some individuals in the state who disrespect the office of the Governor of Rivers State, stressing that “We, the women of Rivers State, hereby condemn this menace and advise politicians to desist from such acts henceforth.”
The women emphasised that while the current acrimonious situation in the state is endangering the restoration of the dignity of Rivers people and the glory of Rivers State, they urged Rivers people not to be discouraged but to join in the collective effort of building the state.
The resolution further called on everyone living in the state and all true lovers of Rivers State to lend their voices to consistently and strongly condemn in its entirety, all threats and forms of lawlessness and subtle invitation to anarchy in the State.
“We believe in peace and we salute our amiable, courageous and God-sent Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for choosing peace over chaos which is the ultimate act of strength. We also commend his peaceful disposition and people-oriented style of governance which our state needs most.”
The women also assured Rivers people that they will continue to embark on activities including sensitization and mobilization until genuine and lasting peace finally comes to stay in Rivers State.
“Our goal is to appeal to the hearts and consciences of Rivers people to sheathe their swords and give PEACE A SIMple CHANCE. For peace is not a destination, but a way of life,” the women concluded.
