As part of efforts to improve the economic situation in some rural areas in Fimie Kingdom, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Seaport have trained over twenty women and young girls on production skills.

The skills include production of house hold toiletries like Dettol, Bleach, liquid washing and bathing soap, insecticide and air freshener.

 

President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Seaport, Victoria Ockiya-Jackson said the skills acquisition training is to also empower the girl-child to be economically and financially independent,

 

“In our assessment, we realized we haven’t impacted on the Fimie community, that why we choose the community to carry out our humanitarian services there. The project is focused on the girl-child which is in line with Rotary International pet project initiative. At the end of this training, the women and girls in this community will be able to train others, make a living out of it, and be financially and economically independent. This project also will be able to foster peace and love in the homes since the women can now assist the husband financially,” the Club President asserts.

On her part, women leader of Fimie Kingdom Lucy Dagogo while speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, said the gesture by Rotary club of PH Seaport have given hope to the women in the community and foster peaceful co-exitence among the young girls in the kingdom.

“This skills acquisition means a lot to us women here in Fimie Community, it will keep our young girls away from indulging in activities that will bring pains and regrets to their families. It will make them responsible and independent financially. We are really grateful to the Rotary club of PH Seaport for this golden opportunity they brought to our door steps. Empowerments like this promotes peace and unity in the community and we urge other individuals and organizations to emulate Rotary’s gesture”, the women leader said.

Our correspondent reports that President and members of the Rotary Club of PH Seaport presented starter packs to over twenty beneficiaries of the training to start up their businesses.
