Liberia is Africa’s oldest independent country, gaining self-rule from America in 1847 and inaugurating its first President, Joseph Jenkins Roberts, in 1848.

The event held on the grounds of the Capitol Building attracted several countries’ leaders and dignitaries, including President of Ghana, Nana Kufuor Addo, President of Sierra Leone, Julius Bio, Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo among others.

The rancour-free election of 79-year-old Boakai Snr and swearing-in of its 26th President signifies another opportunity for Liberia to rebuild and set the country’s developmental compass on the right path. Liberians can translate the enthusiasm and excitement in welcoming their new leadership into support for the Boakai administration to succeed.

In his remarks he said, “I wish the country a new lease of life that would conduce into fulfilled expectations.”
