Open Letter To The Executive Governor Of Delta State On The Continuous Malicious Damages On DELTANS PROPERTIES Ongoing BY A TRADITIONAL RULER
PUBLIC NOTICE AND PUBLIC INTEREST:
Sub-heading: Urgent Appeal for Immediate Action to Address Intimidation and Malicious Damage in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State
His Excellency,
Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori,
Executive Governor of Delta State,
Government House,
Asaba, Delta State.
Your Excellency,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to bring to your attention a matter of grave concern that has been plaguing the peaceful town of Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State. It is with a heavy heart that I report the alleged activities of intimidation by a traditional leader in the area, which has been ongoing for several months.
Residents and citizens in and outside Ogwashi-Uku are facing malicious damage to their homes which are built with their hard earned money, and there is a rising trend of people taking the laws into their own hands. This situation directly contradicts the laws enacted by the Delta State House of Assembly, specifically the “Public and Private Property Protection Law 2018.” This law, in section 13(1) & (2), explicitly prohibits the collection of various levies and fees from construction sites without lawful authorization. Violators of this law face severe consequences, including imprisonment and hefty fines.
Furthermore, section 11(1)(a-c) & (2)(a)&(b) of the same law strictly forbids the sale of landed property to more than one person, especially without legitimate title, with a penalty of 5 years imprisonment upon conviction.
*The citizens of Ogwashi-Uku are entitled to the protection and security promised by the government. It is disheartening to witness such violations of human rights and the rule of law in our democratic society. This actions has also violated the LAND USE ACT OF NIGERIA.
I implore Your Excellency to intervene promptly and decisively to put an end to these acts of intimidation and malicious damage. The people of Ogwashi-Uku deserve to live in peace, free from fear and harassment. Your commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the welfare and security of all Delta State citizens is crucial in restoring order and justice to the affected community.
I believe in your dedication to the principles of democracy, and I trust that you will take appropriate action to address this pressing issue. Your prompt intervention will not only bring relief to the residents of Ogwashi-Uku but also reinforce the democratic values we hold dear.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to positive and swift resolution.
Note: We have attached a video of one of the victims, this is one amongst hundreds of properties already destroyed that has been under reported by the media.
Yours faithfully,
Comrade Victor Ojei (popularly called Wong Box Lead Activist for Young Nigerian Rights Organization)
