The recent claims made by a writer, criticizing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s governance of Delta State due to the absence of a Commissioner for Information and Attorney General, need a closer examination. While these positions are undoubtedly important in any State Administration, it is crucial to consider the broader context of Governor Oborevwori’s decisions and the unique approach he has taken to lead Delta State.

Efficient Resource Allocation:

One of the writer’s points of contention is the fragmentation of the Ministry of Education into three separate departments, each with its Commissioner. While it may seem like a waste of resources at first glance, Governor Oborevwori’s decision likely stems from a desire for more efficient and focused governance. Education, from Primary to Tertiary levels, requires specialized attention. By appointing Commissioners for each sector, the Governor aims to address the specific needs and challenges within Education more effectively.

Creation of the Ministry of Girl Child Entrepreneurship Development:

The appointment of Orode Uduaghan to head the Ministry of Girl Child Entrepreneurship Development may have raised eyebrows, but it is important to recognize the significance of this move. Empowering young women in entrepreneurship is an admirable goal, and Orode Uduaghan, with her experience, might bring valuable insights to the position. This move demonstrates Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment.

Adaptive Leadership:

The writer criticizes the appointment of Charles Aniagwu, a former Information Commissioner, as the Commissioner for Rural and Riverine roads. While Aniagwu’s background is in journalism, this choice showcases Governor Oborevwori’s adaptive leadership style. Aniagwu’s previous experience in the information sector may help improve transparency and communication within the Ministry of Rural and Riverine Roads, ultimately benefiting the people of Delta State.

Addressing the Information Gap:

The absence of an Information Commissioner is a concern raised by the writer, leading to an information gap within the state. However, it is important to note that Governor Oborevwori’s administration has not left Deltans entirely in the dark. The Chief Press Secretary continues to provide press releases and updates, ensuring some level of transparency. While an Information Commissioner may be ideal, it does not render the Government completely non-transparent.

Conclusion:

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s approach to governance in Delta State may differ from conventional methods, but it should not be dismissed outright. His decisions, such as appointing specialized Commissioners and embracing adaptive leadership, reflect a commitment to efficient and responsive governance. While the absence of an information commissioner and attorney general is a concern, it is essential to consider the broader picture and evaluate the impact of Governor Oborevwori’s unique approach on the state’s progress and development. Delta State is navigating its path under his leadership, and it is important to remain open to the possibility that this unconventional approach may yield positive results.
