The resignation comes as a fallout of the recent departure of former National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, which reportedly put immense pressure on El-Marzuq.

According to information from the party’s national headquarters in Abuja which revealed  that El-Marzuq had been facing mounting challenges since Senator Adamu’s exit. His departure marks the fourth high-profile resignation following the departure of Adamu, former National Vice Chairman for Northwest, Mallam Salihu Lukman, and the immediate past National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Recalling that, El-Marzuq made headlines three months ago when he recommended the expulsion of Mallam Salihu Lukman for taking the party and its leadership to court. This leaked ‘legal opinion’ addressed to Adamu on April 28, 2023, caused significant controversy within the party.

However, efforts to obtain a reaction from the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, were unsuccessful.

Though, the Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, confirmed the resignation, stating that El-Marzuq has indeed stepped down. Despite confirming the news, Duru declined to provide further comments on the matter.

The sudden resignation of the National Legal Adviser adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing leadership crisis within the APC. As the party grapples with internal challenges, members and observers alike anxiously await further developments in this unfolding political saga.
