It was an emotion-laddened day at the Conference Hall of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development as the tenure of the Organization’s political head, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, comes to an end.
Appointed on 19th December, 2021, alongside thirteen others as Commissioners by Governor Abdullahi Sule, Yargwa, together with his colleagues,was sworn-in on Wednesday, 23rd December, 2021, and resumed official duties on Thursday, 24th December of same year.
After one year and five months in office, Yargwa would be bidding farewell to the Ministry, its Management and Staff for the support and solidarity accorded him throughout his stay.
At the valedictory session held in his honour on Wednesday, Management members and staff eulogized the young but dynamic Commissioner for the transformation he brought in his short stint.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mallam Isah Mohammed Eyah, congratulated the Commissioner for successfully rounding off his task, despite the limited period available to him.
He described the Commissioner as an easy-going personality whom he enjoyed working with.
“I had never known the Commissioner before my appointment and subsequent posting to this Ministry as Permanent Secretary. But my first encounter with him gave me an assurance that we could work along to achieve a common goal.
“We met a bunch of challenges in the Ministry, and together, we ensured we were able to tackle them head-on.
“Sir, you have done your best, and your name is already written in the sand of history in this Ministry and State.
“You have laid foundations that we will only continue to build upon, even though there were areas of difficulties that overwhelmed you – you are only human, and can’t do everything or be everything.
“In life, we learn everyday, because no one is an island.
“We thank you for all you have done for this Ministry, her staff, and State in general.
“This relationship is a continuous one, irrespective of whether you are still here or not.
“We will continue to pray for you to succeed in all you do.”
Director of Youth Development, Umar Abubakar, appreciated the outgoing Commissioner for creating an atmosphere of healthy competition among Management and Staff of the Organization, saying the few period the Commissioner spent at the Ministry was eventful and memorable.
He commendable Governor Abdullahi Sule for appointing him to serve in his cabinet and as one of the youngest Commissioners in the history of the State.
The Director applauded the Commissioner for his perseverance in the face of daunting challenges, and wished him well in his future endeavour.
Isah Mustapha, Director of Administration and Supplies, thanked the Commissioner for his impactful leadership which brought about physical and psychological development to the Ministry and its staff.
He noted that the physical facelift around the Ministry’s facilities were the foresight of the purposeful leadership style of the Commissioner.
Isah also appreciated the Commissioner for facilitating the enrollment of over twenty casual staff of the Ministry into the State’s Civil Service to become Permanent and Pensionable.
He described the Commissioner as a cool-headed personality who wants the growth and development of those around him.
He wished the Commissioner well in his next endeavour and said he will continue to reminisce the fond memories shared.
Other staff of the Ministry also eulogized the outgoing Commissioner, and thanked the Governor for according him the opportunity.
In his remarks, the outgoing Commissioner, Lucky Isaac Yargwa, thanked the Management and Staff of the Ministry for providing him an enabling environment to perform his statutory duties.
He expressed his appreciation to Governor Abdullahi Sule for considering him worthy to work in his cabinet against all odds.
Yargwa said the experiences gathered during his one and a half years as Commissioner will be indelible, adding that he would continue to be indebted to the Governor and the good people of the State, especially the youth, for the support accorded him.
He pleaded with the Management and Staff of the Ministry to forgive him wherever he had offended them, noting that any of his actions was not to witch-hunt anyone but to get the job done according to mandates.
“I never knew I would be appointed as Commissioner, and little did I know I would be posted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
“But whatever God has destined, nothing changes it.
“I didn’t come here by accident. And I thank you all for your support and endurance.
“In the cause of my leadership, I might have trampled on toes, but it is not for any ulterior motives. It’s to get the job done as expected for our overall good.
“So, I am sorry, if my actions offended you.”
Yargwa urged the Management and Staff of the Organization to accord the Permanent Secretary the needed support to move the Ministry to the next level, pending the appointment of his successor.
