The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, on Friday said the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force planned to replace existing old buildings in its divisions with modern structures.

Speaking in Ilesa, Osun State, at the inauguration of a modern police station built by the NPF, the IG, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West, Johnson Kokumo, said the need to cater for the welfare of the officers and men of the force brought about the project.

He appealed to members of the community to actively participate in the provision of security, saying the police would always be willing to collaborate with the citizens to ensure adequate security for lives and property.

Kokumo said, “The Inspector-General of Police believes strongly that the welfare of the officers and men of the force is very important as it goes a long way in determining their productivity.

“For this reason, he has stopped at nothing to ensure that he impacts positively and this has propelled him into action and that is what we are witnessing today. A modern police station we have never had before built across Nigeria. We do hope that we can gradually phase out the existing divisions, some of which are in a state of despair and require total refurbishment.”
