The National Population Commission in Lagos State has partnered with the United Nations Children’s Fund to enable a smooth transition from analogue registration of birth to digital registration.

The state Federal Commissioner of NPC, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, disclosed this on Friday during the official handover of UNICEF-donated computer hardware and other equipment to the Lagos State office in Surulere.

Salu-Hundeyin said, “Through sponsorship of programmes and organisation of birth registration mop-up exercises, UNICEF has ingrained itself with the Lagos office of the commission and this partnership has recorded tremendous successes.

“The donation of computer hardware and other peripherals will enhance the smooth transition from analogue birth registration to digital registration.

“Birth certificates will be electronically printed while other forms used to collect background information about the mother and child have also been digitalised and housed in handheld tablets and these forms are being uploaded to the cloud/server and the local government area headquarters office will print out the birth certificate for ultimate collection by the owner.”

Also speaking at the event, the Coordinator of Child Protection, UNICEF, South-West Nigeria, Mr Denis Onoise, said, “This is a good initiative and we will continue to keep the birth registration dashboard functioning and we wish the commission success in the 2023 census.”
