Music streaming giants, Apple and Spotify, have removed an album released by convicted American R&B singer, R.Kelly.
Currently serving a 30 years’ jail sentence for racketeering and sex trafficking charges, R. Kelly managed to release the album “I Admit It”. The body of work however stirred controversy.
The album containing 13 songs ended with a song R.Kelly initially released on SoundCloud in 2018.
The ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ crooner in one of the tracks on the album, admitted to having relationships with fans while indirectly protesting the list of sex crimes he was charged with.
“They’re brainwashed, really? Kidnapped, really? Can’t eat, really? Real talk, that s— sounds silly.” He said in the lyrics of one of the songs.
The “I Admit It” album was briefly available on Apple and Spotify in the early hours of Friday morning before it was pulled down on both platforms.
In 2019, R.Kelly’s deal with Sony Music was reportedly cancelled following allegations of sexual crimes.
In June 2022, R.Kelly was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment after U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly listened to several testimonies from survivors who confirmed how the 55-year-old’s act made them traumatised during their childhood.
Meanwhile, the R&B singer is expected to face additional sentencing concerning an Illinois child pornography conviction on February 23, 2023.
