A Spotify representative in a press release, confirmed that the royal couple are making the philanthropic donation through their Archewell Foundation to “help provide relief following devastating floods wreaking havoc in Nigeria,” Skynews reported.

The representative confirmed that the foundation had donated to UNICEF and Save the Children.

Devastating floods caused by torrential rainfall from climate change and poor drainage infrastructure have swept through Nigeria in the recent weeks. More than 2.5 million Nigerians have been affected.

The country’s ministry of humanitarian affairs and disaster management said 1.4 million people were displaced, and no fewer than 600 lives have perished in the floods while the injured stands at 2,400 as of Tuesday.

Many Nigerian cities and towns in states like Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers in southern region have been submerged. The Federal Capital Territory and other northern parts have also suffered from flash floods and overflows from River Niger and River Benue and their tributaries.

The flooding is the worst case the country has had since 2012, which according to the United Nation’s OCHA (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) had by the end of October 2012, affected “more than 7.7 million people.”
