The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has admonished Lagos residents to bear the burden of the moment as the disruption in the state is to decongest the prevailing traffic jam with the provision of the Red Line Rail System.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke to the Redeemed Christian Church of God congregation at the October Thanksgiving Service titled, “Perfect Peace In the Land” which was held on Sunday to commemorate Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Day, made the comment as he reacted to the complaints of some Lagos residents about the new development in the state causing major road diversions and traffic jam.

On Tuesday, The PUNCH reported that the Lagos State Government took delivery of new trains from Milwaukee, United States, for its Redline rail project, a 37-kilometre intracity railway system.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, the delivery was in line with the government’s determination to deliver the operation of the Red Line Rail System by the first quarter of 2023.

Speaking at the service, Sanwo-Olu said, “The disruption in Apapa, Ikeja, and some Lagos major roads are specifically to make the road accessible for users. We want to ease the burden on our people. It’s just a matter of time, and this phase too will pass.

“I implore you Lagosians to bear the burden of this little time so that we will enjoy the benefit of a long-term project.”

Sanwo-Olu further asserted that the infrastructure developments by his administration and the past are the reasons why Lagos is a toast to many investors in the country and around the world.

He corroborated the sermon of the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on peace, stressing that it is only through it a nation can be united.

“I thank Pastor Adeboye, and Lagosians for their support, and for believing in the dream of Nigeria on the celebration of her 62nd Independence Day and I pray that by next year, I will be here to celebrate with you again as the governor of Lagos State,” he added.
