Imo Radio Station Denies Shutdown By NBC

Ozisa FM Radio station management in Owerri, Imo State, has debunked the news that the Nigeria Broadcasting Cooperation had shut down its frequency.

News had since gone viral on Sunday that NBC had shut down the radio station on the Imo State government’s alleged order for reporting the facts of the July 17 killing of 14 wedding guests in Awomama in Oru East Local Government Area of the state by the Ebubeagu Security operatives.

But the radio station, in a statement issued in Owerri, said that the station was “temporarily suspended” and not shut down.

The statement read, “That Ozisa Fm was not shut down but temporarily suspended. The matter is being handled by the Appropriate Authorities. We appreciate the understanding of the National Broadcasting Commission. NBC.

“That Ozisa Radio Station is owned not by the Catholic Church but by Ozisa Foundation for Peace and Social Development and is on the church premises on leased property.

“We would want to discourage all speculations and inciting statements. Ozisa Radio will continue to offer a platform for the community to contribute and foster civic responsibility and integration.”
