Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo scored a brace as Al Hilal defeated Al Faisaly 2-1 on Monday evening to win a record 18th Saudi Professional League title.
Al Hilal needed a victory to guarantee the title ahead of rivals Al Ittihad. They got off to a flying start, Ighalo scoring inside seven minutes to start the party amongst the fans.
Al Hilal pushed for more goals, but their opponents remained resolute at the back for about an hour before succumbing to another Ighalo goal in the 64th minute.
Clayson would go on to half the deficit six minutes later, but it was not enough to save their top-flight status as Ighalo’s goals were enough to seal yet another title for Al Hilal.
Ighalo scored 12 goals in 13 games for Al Hilal, joining them midway through the season from Al Shabab.
The two goals on Monday night helped him win his first-ever league title in his professional career and took his goal tally for the season to 24, making him the league’s top scorer.
