Unknown gunmen have stirred tension in Ukwa West local government area of Abia State.
Reports reaching ‘Naija News’ on Wednesday morning confirmed that many are feared dead after the assailants stormed the Abia cattle market in Omumauzor.
They reportedly invaded the newly constructed market and killed several persons on Tuesday night.
Details of the incident are still sketchy at the moment.
‘The Nation’, however, confirmed that security operatives have been deployed to the area to maintain peace.
It was learned that the policemen were killed by the gunmen during an attack on a roadblock mounted in front of the station on Monday.
According to reports, the policemen stopped a hummer bus conveying the gunmen, and in turn, opened fire on the officers.
The remains of the three police victims have been deposited at a mortuary in Abakaliki, the state capital.
However, the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident to reporters on Tuesday.
She stated that more details would be released soon after ascertaining the number of casualties.
