Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday announced the sack of the state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Princewill Chike.
Wike said Chike was relieved of his position for not seeking the state government’s approval to host the preliminary session of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, in Port Harcourt.
The governor described the unilateral decision of the commissioner to host the MDNC as most embarrassing.
Wike announced the sack when the chairman of the MDCN, Prof Abba Hassan, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, and made available to journalists.
The governor explained that the state government never requested to host the preliminary session of MDCN, saying the commissioner erred to have unilaterally scheduled to host the event at the same time when the state government was inaugurating projects.
“Frankly speaking, I have never seen an embarrassment like this in my life. Everybody knows that it is not my nature to bring people and you cannot attend to them or host.
“So, whoever has done will suffer for it,” Wike stated.
