Three former members of the House of Representatives, including a former River State spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, Ogbonna Nwuke formally joined the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Port Harcourt, on Thursday.
Beside the three former members, 17 others, all from the APC and the African Action Congress also defected to the ruling PDP at a colourful ceremony presided over by Governor Nyesom Wike.
The three former federal lawmakers are: Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, Hon. Emma Deeyah and Hon. Daimi Akpanah.
While receiving the new party members, Governor Nyesom Wike said, “APC has failed Nigeria. I continue to tell them; let APC in Rivers State tell us what the Federal Government has done for the people of Rivers State in the past six years.”
He expressed the hope that the PDP will defeat APC in the 2023 general elections and assured that PDP will never be divided because the party is the hope of Nigerians in the next elections.
He enjoined the PDP supporters in the state not to allow themselves to be intimidated by anybody,
Earlier, the State PDP Chairman, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, said the defectors had returned to the party after they were lured out by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, with fake promises of bringing positive change to them which never materialised.
